Agnico Eagle celebrates courageous individuals who develop, train and lead our mine rescue teams, enhancing our global reputation for excellence.
Our Mine Rescue Hall of Fame recognizes those dedicated to making our workplaces safer for employees, contractors and our host communities. This year, we honour Edith Lafontaine, Jon Hill and Stéphane Lachance, who have undergone extensive training in rescue operations and emergency response. Their commitment to safety, leadership and contributions to improving emergency response exemplify their exceptional abilities and unwavering commitment to the mining industry.
Their names now grace the Hall of Fame wall plaque at our LaRonde Complex, alongside 48 previous inductees since 2009.

Edith Lafontaine, currently an Underground Engineering Coordinator at Meliadine, has made exceptional contributions as an Emergency Response Specialist within the mining industry. Her career spans more than 17 years, including 14 years at LaRonde, where she played an essential role on its Mine Rescue team. Beyond her daily responsibilities, Edith joined Mine Rescue Quebec in 2008, excelling in various roles, culminating in her position as Mission Coordinator where she has led missions to restore ventilation during critical gas emission and high-temperature scenarios. Edith’s dedication is evident from her participation in provincial competitions, earning the "red seal distinction," and her efforts in enhancing emergency response capabilities, such as justifying the acquisition of the Draeger MRV-9000.
Jon Hill, a Surface and Underground Electrician at Hope Bay, has been a steadfast member of mine rescue teams for over 15 years. Recently, he earned high praise for his leadership and first aid skills during a critical drill. Jon holds the esteemed role of Pumper Operator and often serves as a designated Captain, showcasing his leadership. Beyond his official duties, Jon ensures his gear is always ready, sets a positive example and offers assistance to team members. With his mine rescue experience and active participation in competitions, Jon’s dedication and expertise greatly enhance the team’s preparedness and success.
Stéphane Lachance, Mine Supervisor, is a seasoned member of the Mine Rescue team at LaRonde. He began his mine rescue training in 1996 at the Doyon mine and refreshed it in 2007 at the Mouska mine. He competed in a provincial championship with the Mouska team in 2010, right before joining LaRonde. Stéphane earned his advanced training seal in 2009 and became a Director of Rescue Operations in 2016. He has competed in four provincial championships, three with LaRonde. Known for his strong leadership and commitment to team safety, Stéphane now focuses on mentoring new team members to ensure a strong future for Mine Rescue.
Congratulations to Agnico Eagle's 2024 Mine Rescue Inductees for your dedication and commitment to safety.
