Celebrating Our Latest Mine Rescue Hall of Fame Inductees

June 09, 2022

Agnico Eagle’s mine rescue teams have a reputation for excellence in emergency response, helping to make our workplaces safer for employees, contractors and our host communities.

We created the Mine Rescue Hall of Fame in 2009 to annually recognize the individuals who have devoted their time and skills to ensure Agnico Eagle has a great mine rescue program and highly skilled rescuers. Since then, we have inducted 41 people into our Hall of Fame.

The 2022 inductees are: Marc Larochelle and Sébastien Roy from Abitibi, and Carlos Castaňo from Mexico. Each of these individuals has dedicated hours of training in how to rescue miners and others who are trapped or injured underground because of accidents, floods, fires or other incidents.

What does it take to a be a Hall of Famer? Beyond technical skills, they must be leaders who create team spirit and camaraderie. They must elevate their team to a higher level of performance through training, equipment maintenance and skills development. And they must contribute to the team’s overall success through their actions and exemplary behavior.

The names of our three inductees have now been inscribed on the Hall of Fame wall plaque at our LaRonde complex.

Congratulations to Agnico Eagle’s 2022 Mine Rescue Inductees for your inspiring leadership, bravery and team spirit!

Marc Larochelle has been a mine rescuer at LaRonde since 2010. He is always prepared and no mechanical breakdown can stop a mission if he is part of it! Marc has a big heart and has played an important role in several rescue missions, including an SO2 mission that lasted for several consecutive days, to ensure sulphur dioxide levels were low enough for miners to return safely to work.
