Over the years, Agnico Eagle Mexico has been honoured with the country’s most esteemed distinction for excellence in mine safety with six Silver Helmet Awards.
This year, we are thrilled to announce that our Creston Mascota mine has been awarded their first Silver Helmet in the category of Open Pit Mining (up to 500 workers) by the Mexico Mining Chamber (CAMIMEX), bringing Agnico Eagle Mexico’s Silver Helmet award count to seven.
Creston Mascota garnered this prestigious award by achieving excellence in a variety of health and safety standards that comply with both our sustainability commitments and national and international regulations. This includes safety programs and protocols, inspections, assessments and activities that together, work towards achieving Agnico Eagle’s global objective of Zero Accidents.
On October 19, Blanca Paola Cázares, Director of Sustainability and Public Relations and Fernando Oviedo, Director of Mine Site Exploration attended the 2020 Silver Helmet Awards ceremony to receive the award on behalf of Creston Mascota.
“This award recognizes the dedication, focus and effort of the Creston Mascota team who have demonstrated diligence to continually improve and work towards a safer workplace.” comments Paola.
This recognition adds to the culmination of years of stellar health and safety performance as evidenced by the wins from partner sites: Pinos Altos was awarded the Silver Helmet honour in 2009, 2012 and 2013; and La India received the award for three consecutive years from 2017 to 2019!
