Mexico is the next stop on our “60 on 60” tour of Agnico Eagle’s global mining operations. In this installment of our video series, we visit our La India, Pinos Altos and Creston Mascota sites – all located in northwestern Mexico where gold and silver mining has taken place for over 500 years.
Agnico Eagle officially began mining in Mexico in 2009, when first gold was poured at Pinos Altos. Today, our employees express a deep pride in working for Agnico Eagle Mexico (AEM) and gratitude for the opportunities to improve both their personal and professional lives.
As a Blast and Drilling Captain, Carlos Bayrruz tours us around Creston Mascota, marveling at how far his family has come – both economically and professionally – from his family’s history as artisanal miners.
Adriana Meraz, a Human Resources Systems Coordinator at Pinos Altos, takes us to visit with her family and friends in the community, and with her colleagues at work as she expresses a real sense of accomplishment in achieving her career and family goals.
As a single mother, Carolina Hurtado celebrates the encouragement she received from her AEM family at our La India mine where she has worked her way up from a job in the maintenance department to her role today in the open pit/blasting operations unit.
Finally, Gustavo Noriega, one of AEM’s first employees, and today Director of Operations, reminisces about the early days of mining at Pinos Altos, including the challenges he faced in recruiting local residents to work at the site and the growing need to respond to community expectations.
Together, these videos depict how AEM is helping its employees build a better life for themselves, their families and their communities – through our long-standing commitment to goodness, generosity of spirit and family pride.
