How to change the world – 1 good deed at a time

September 11, 2017

Many of Agnico Eagle’s Mexico employees banded together to remind others that one simple act of kindness can make a world of a difference in a person’s life. We call it Good Deeds Day.

On Saturday August 12th, 13 communities, 1,500 people and many of Agnico Eagle’s Mexico employees banded together promote the importance of generosity and giving back to others – an upbeat reminder that one simple act of kindness can make a world of difference in a person’s life.

The day began with a community parade to help promote the various types of activities and ways to give back that people could choose to do to support their local community and their neighbours.

With a goal of at least one good deed to be performed by every participant the event registered more than 1,500 good deeds! Plus, each of the communities were also asked to register a specific community-wide good deed that they could perform.

The types of good deeds ranged from giving away smiles to collecting food and pantry donations for low-income citizens. Other acts of generosity included:

  • Visiting and assisting people who require critical or special support
  • Conducting community cleanup campaigns
  • Hosting children’s festivals
  • Giving hugs to the elderly
  • Performing reforestation activities in several communities
  • Painting community perimeter walls

This is the second Good Deeds Day that Agnico Eagle’s Community Relations team has now organized in the Municipality of Ocampo, which surrounds our Pinos Altos and Creston Mascota mines.

Diony Campos, the Community Relations Superintendent for Pinos Altos and Creston Mascota, notes that the first event was so successful that the company decided to turn it into not just a singular event, but rather a whole season of good deeds!

“Our main goal is to remind people that it is important to perform good deeds every day, because there is always someone who needs a helping hand and even small acts of kindness in the community can mean so much. It is very satisfying to see the results of this initiative and it also underscores Agnico Eagle’s values of community and social responsibility.”
