Family, fitness and fun – the heart of the Abitibi takes hold

December 13, 2017

Our next installment of Agnico Eagle’s “60 on 60” video series takes us deep inside the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region of Québec, where our local mining roots first took hold.

From the historic Joutel mining complex to the LaRonde, Lapa and Goldex mines of today, the region has long been the site of exciting mining discoveries, family passions and community fun.

Shoot the rapids alongside Mélanie Marcil as she encourages people to get active and to enjoy the outdoors – leading them through a large obstacle course with 40 different challenges, including some water obstacles located in the rapids themselves.

Hit the slopes with Sophie Lafontaine as she coaches a group of 45 young people to become competitive skiers – sharing her passion for the sport when she is not busy pursuing her weekday passion as a geologist with the company’s Exploration team.

Listen to Nancy Létourneau as she talks with pride about working at the same company as her father Michel, and remembers how, as a young teen, she used to help him study and practice his first aid skills before his mine rescue competitions.

Each of these videos captures the heart of Agnico Eagle’s culture – one that celebrates family, fitness and fun. We value these qualities because we value them in our business. It is through teamwork and collaboration, balance and agility, and our proactive approach to business that we will continue to succeed.
