Agnico Eagle launches 2016 Sustainable Development Report

April 27, 2017

I am pleased to announce that Agnico Eagle has now released its 2016 sustainable development summary report and comprehensive performance data tables marking the eighth year where we have produced a detailed account of our sustainability performance.

This year’s report shows our performance as measured using both the Sustainability Reporting Guidelines (G4) as developed by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and also the Mining Association of Canada’s (MAC) Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) initiative.

The report covers the period of January 1st to December 31st 2016 and aims to provide insight into how Agnico Eagle manages the challenges associated with our health, safety, environmental and social risks.

Our aspirational goal remains zero harm to our employees and to the environment around our sites. And with almost 60 years of experience, as well as guidance from internal and external audits, we are making steady progress towards that goal.

As we embark on our next growth phase with the recent approval of our projects in Nunavut I believe that sustainable development will play an increasingly key role in Agnico Eagle’s success.

Sustainable development puts people first, providing them with a healthy and safe work environment.  It supports permitting and sustainable environmental design of projects in our pipeline.  It evaluates and manages health and safety, environmental and social acceptability risks to ensure continuity of operation that deliver results. And, it ensures clarity with transparent and impactful communication.

I invite you to learn more about the progress we are making by reading about our challenges and successes and sharing our latest report with your families and friends!
